Race Notes
- Andretti Formula E was back in action today at the Shanghai International Circuit for Round 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as Jake Dennis and Felipe Drugovich took part in a wet Free Practice 3 session to begin the day. Dennis suffered from a driveshaft issue on his outlap and was forced to pit for repairs. Thanks to the quick work of the Car No. 27 mechanics crew, the Brit was able to rejoin the session and wasted no time getting up to speed, setting the fifth fastest lap time. Like his teammate, Drugovich also demonstrated his pace and current form, posting a time quick enough for third.
- Both Andretti drivers took part in Group B of Qualifying, with Drugovich progressing into the Duels from third in the session whereas teammate Dennis encountered blocking and contact from competitors, meaning the Brit was unable to improve and finished sixth. Drugovich progressed all the way to the Final Duel where he claimed his first Julius Baer Pole Position in Formula E.
- Drugovich’s Qualifying result marks Andretti Formula E’s 16th Pole Position, 32nd front-row start and 65th session the team has topped in Formula E.
- Today’s E-Prix began under the Safety Car due to worsening weather conditions, lasting a total of 3 laps before a standing start.
- Both Andretti’s delayed their first Attack Modes until those behind them had taken theirs in order to build an offset with their extra 50kWh of power. Once they had used their first Attacks by Lap 9, Drugovich was running in third with teammate Dennis behind in fourth.
- As the circuit dried, both cars began to struggle for grip and their energy consumption and therefore lost positions in order to maximize their efficiency. Those at the rear of the field who had gambled with tire pressures for a dry race benefited and were able to overtake the Andretti duo. As a result, Drugovich took the checkered in sixth with teammate Dennis behind in 13th.
- The 2026 Shanghai E-Prix II saw one Safety Car and Full Course Yellow period, culminating in one added lap to the race.
- Today’s result at the Shanghai International Circuit marks Andretti’s 145th top-ten finish and with Drugovich leading four laps, the team’s total laps led increases to 486.
- Scoring 11 points, the Andretti Formula E team overtake Mahindra Racing in the Teams’ Championship standings and now sit third with 174 points.

Qualifying
- Dennis experienced a difficult Qualifying session as the field fought over track position though looked set to improve on his ultimate pace towards the end of the session. Unfortunately, the No. 27 driver was blocked by Envision Racing’s Sebastian Buemi and so did not improve and finished the session in sixth.
Race
- Dennis was able to make the most of his well-timed first Attack Mode on Lap 5 and make his way to fourth by Lap 9.
- As the track began to dry, Dennis struggled with grip and energy targets and therefore lost positions to those who had conserved their energy during the opening phase of the E-Prix.
- By Lap 20, the Brit had dropped to eighth on track. Cars at the rear of the field who had saved their Attack Modes for later in the race also managed to pass Dennis who eventually brought the car home in 13th.
“It was a frustrating way to end the weekend because I think we had more potential than the result shows. Qualifying was disappointing as I was on a lap that should have put me into the Duels, but I got caught up in traffic and never had the chance to improve. From there, we managed the opening part of the race well and the first Attack Mode worked as planned, but as the circuit dried we just weren’t in the right window. We struggled with grip and it was difficult to hit energy targets running alone on track. Ultimately that left us vulnerable to those around us on different strategies. It’s one of those races where the conditions evolved quickly and we ended up on the wrong side of it. There are still positives from the weekend though, especially with the team’s move up to third in the Championship, so we’ll take those and focus on coming back stronger next time in Tokyo.”

Qualifying
- Drugovich progressed into the Duels having finished third in Group B Qualifying, seeing off Nissan’s Norman Nato and Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein in the Semi-Final and Quarter Final, respectively. The Brazilian bettered DS Penske’s Taylor Barnard in the Final Duel to claim his first Formula E Pole Position and third career front-row start.
- The No. 28 driver’s Qualifying result increases his Duels win-percentage to 58%, the fifth highest in Formula E.
Race
- Drugovich mirrored a similar strategy to teammate Dennis, delaying his first Attack Mode until Lap 6 and was able to cycle back through the field and into third.
- However, like his teammate, energy consumption targets became difficult to manage and the drying track resulted in a lack of grip for the No. 28 driver. As a result, Drugovich lost positions to those on the alternate tire strategy.
- Taking his final Attack mode on Lap 22, Drugovich was able to bring the Porsche 99X Electric home in sixth, securing his seventh top-10 finish in Formula E.
- The Brazilian led four laps of the 2026 Shanghai E-Prix II, taking his total career laps led to 11.
- Drugovich’s 11 Championship points from his Pole Position and sixth place elevates him one position in the Drivers’ Championship to 11th, making him the highest positioned rookie this season.
“It’s a bit of a bittersweet day. Obviously, I’m really happy to have achieved my first Pole Position in Formula E however the race did not go our way. We had a very strong car in the wet and the whole team did a great job to put us on the front-row but unfortunately, once the track started to dry we just struggled with the balance and energy consumption compared to some of the cars around us in dry setups.
There’s still some positives to take away. We scored good points and the team has moved up to third in the Teams’ Championship, which is important. We’ve shown throughout the weekend that we’re consistently fighting at the front and that’s encouraging for the second half of the season. Hopefully we can build on this momentum heading into the next races.”

Roger Griffiths
Team Principal

“A day of mixed fortunes. Super pleased with Felipe in Qualifying achieving his very first Pole Position in Formula E. He drove some unbelievable fast laps in the Duels to secure that pole. It was always going to be tricky with changeable weather conditions, but we reacted really well. Unfortunately, we were a little bit on the back foot in the race. It started reasonably well with the first Attack Modes, but it all started to fall away from us as the race unfolded. It’s hard to protect against those that gamble with how the track conditions are going to evolve and we couldn’t know whether going with dry or wet [tire] pressures was the right thing to do, but we need to look into our approach and how we can better evolve the strategy when conditions are changing. We are disappointed, though we have moved up into third place in the Teams’ Championship standings. With Mitch [Evans] not being able to start the race, that has also impacted the Drivers’ Championship and with four races still to run, Jake has an outside chance of finishing in the top three. All in all, a lot to debrief on through the coming weeks before we head to Tokyo for a super exciting event.”
