Andretti Global Chases Road Course Momentum at Mid-Ohio

7.1.26

The road course swing continues this weekend as Andretti Global’s INDYCAR and INDY NXT teams head to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Located in Lexington, Ohio, the 2.258-mile, 13-turn natural-terrain road course offers a little bit of everything: elevation changes, high-speed corners, flowing corners, tight corners, a narrow racing ribbon and a challenging entry to pit lane.

Andretti INDYCAR enters the weekend after Will Power earned his second podium finish of the season at Road America. The Andretti INDY NXT team also returns to action after Lochie Hughes delivered the team’s milestone 100th victory during the Road America doubleheader. With recent success on road courses, both teams will look to continue that form this weekend at Mid-Ohio.

INDYCAR

  • In 20 appearances at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, Andretti INDYCAR has captured two wins (Rossi – 2018, Herta – 2020 Race 2), recorded 11 podium finishes, including a podium sweep in 2020, collected 24 top-five finishes and led 236 laps.

Will Power

  • After earning his second podium finish of the season at Road America, Will Power returns to Mid-Ohio for his 19th appearance, where he has claimed one win, five poles and nine podiums.
  • During the 2025 event, Power took the green flag from 22nd, but an engine issue forced the Australian to retire from the race after just 11 laps.

Kyle Kirkwood

  • Making his fifth start at Mid-Ohio, Kyle Kirkwood has recorded top-10 finishes in his last two appearances at the Ohio road course.
  • Last season, Kirkwood started seventh at Mid-Ohio and worked his way through the field after losing a few positions on the opening lap. Running as high as sixth in the closing stages of the race, fuel strategy resulted in an eighth-place finish for the Florida driver.
  • Prior to his INDYCAR debut at Mid-Ohio, Kirkwood made history by becoming the first driver to complete the Road to Indy Triple Crown when he clinched the 2021 INDY NXT by Firestone Championship at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Marcus Ericsson

  • Marcus Ericsson returns to the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio for the ninth time this weekend with four top-10 finishes at the track, including a second-place result in 2021.
  • In 2025, Ericsson started 10th at Mid-Ohio and ran as high as ninth during the 90-lap race. Fuel strategy ultimately left the Swede with a 12th-place finish.

INDY NXT

  • Following an exciting Andretti INDY NXT team milestone at Road America, where Lochie Hughes captured the team’s 100th win, the team will continue road course racing this weekend as they travel to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for another doubleheader race weekend. Previously, the team has scored 12 wins (Matos – 2008 R1, Plowman – 2010, Jamin – 2017 R2, O’Ward – 2018 R1 & 2, Askew – 2019 R1 & 2, Kirkwood – 2021 R1 & 2, McElrea – 2022, Foster – 2023, Hauger – 2025), 11 pole positions (Matos – 2008 R1, Plowman – 2010, Herta – 2017 R2, O’Ward – 2018 R1 & 2, Askew – 2019 R1 & 2, Kirkwood – 2021 R1, Frost – 2021 R2, McElrea – 2022, Hauger – 2025), 46 top-five finishes and 425 laps led at the Lexington, Ohio road course.

Lochie Hughes

  • Fresh off a historic victory at Road America, which marked the 100th milestone win for Andretti’s INDY NXT program, Lochie Hughes carries peak momentum into his second career appearance at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.
  • Hughes brings valuable prior experience to the Lexington road course from his USF Pro 2000 career, where he secured a top-five finish in Race 1 and a top-10 result in Race 2 of the doubleheader weekend in 2024.
  • Road courses have proven to be a strength for Hughes, with seven of his 10 career INDY NXT podiums secured on permanent road circuits.

Seb Murray

  • Seb Murray will return to Mid-Ohio for his second appearance at the midwestern road course, looking for redemption after last year’s event took him out of the contest only three laps in after an intense on-track incident

Max Taylor

  • Max Taylor will make his INDY NXT debut at Mid-Ohio this weekend. However, Taylor has extensive experience on the Lexington road course through the open-wheel ladder system, including a USF Pro 2000 podium finish last season, a double-victory (Race 1 and Race 3) during the 2024 USF 2000 event and a top-10 finish in USF Juniors in 2023.

Josh Pierson

  • Josh Pierson will make his fourth INDY NXT appearance at Mid-Ohio this weekend after having already collected two top-10 finishes (2023 and 2024) and a top-five finish (2025) on the road course in the Series.

Will Power

No. 26 TWG AI Honda

“Mid-Ohio has been a good track for me over the years, and it will be nice to race there as a Honda driver this time around. It’s obviously an important weekend for Honda, so hopefully we can put together a strong result. We had a great race at Road America and a solid test at Mid-Ohio, so we’re confident that we can carry that momentum into this weekend.”

Kyle Kirkwood

No. 27 Sam’s Club Honda

“Mid-Ohio is a track that we’ve been reasonable at in the past, but we had a phenomenal test there last week. We’re very much looking forward to getting the race underway. Our road course package has been strong, so hopefully we can keep that momentum going.”

Marcus Ericsson

No. 28 Delaware Life Honda

“Mid-Ohio is always one of the fun road courses we go to. It’s a very technical track, and I’ve had some good success there over the years with a podium finish and other strong runs. We had a great test there last week, and I’m excited to see what we can do this weekend with the Delaware Life crew.”

Ron Ruzewski

Team Principal

“We look forward to getting back on track this weekend at Mid-Ohio. This event is a staple on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar and will be a great weekend to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. We took the opportunity to use one of our valuable test days at Mid-Ohio last week, and we hope to turn that test into a strong result this weekend. Our test was very good, and all three drivers were positive about the gains we made. INDYCAR is so competitive that you need to be as prepared as possible as soon as you hit the track on race weekend. All three drivers have had success at Mid-Ohio, and we’ll do our best to get one of these cars into Victory Circle.”

Lochie Hughes

No. 26 Andretti Global Dallara

“I’m excited to be back at Mid-Ohio this weekend. We have another doubleheader, which means plenty of racing and more opportunities for points. We were on the podium here last year, so I’m hoping to make that happen again. It should be a fun weekend of racing and celebrating America’s 250th birthday!”

Seb Murray

No. 27 Megatron Dallara

“I’m excited to race on another road course this year. Mid-Ohio is a great circuit, and the No. 27 Dallara has had great pace on these types of tracks. We’ve been a bit unlucky, but we know that the speed is there. Hopefully, we can find that extra bit of execution that we need to finally close in on some podium spots this weekend.”

Max Taylor

No. 28 Susan G. Komen Dallara

“I can’t wait to get back on track and make up the points lost at Road America. Hopefully, we got the bad luck out of the way and can have a clean slate going forward. I’m excited to be back competing for wins and podiums on the Fourth of July weekend.”

Josh Pierson

No. 29 Starchive Dallara

“After an up and down weekend in Road America, I’m looking forward to going racing in Mid-Ohio. Despite a challenging Race 2 a couple of weeks ago, I still feel like I have got a lot of positive momentum on my side. I’m as confident as ever to chase some more hardware.”

Don Lambert

Team Principal

“Andretti Global INDY NXT is ready to take on Mid-Ohio this weekend. Coming off Road America, where we had some major highs and lows, we walked away from that weekend with important lessons. Race 1 brought a double podium and a massive 100th win for the team, but Race 2 showed us just how unpredictable this Championship can be. But we’ve come out of that with lessons learned for this weekend to race on another road course. With another doubleheader this weekend, our goal is to maximize execution and join in on the country’s 250th celebration on the Fourth of July by adding a couple of wins to the team’s total.”
