The Road to 100 Wins: How Andretti INDY NXT Made History at Road America

7.1.26

The 100th Win Moment

The Andretti Global INDY NXT team recently hit an exciting milestone this past weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, as No. 26 Andretti Global Dallara driver Lochie Hughes secured the team’s 100th win. Hughes’ victory at Road America marks his third with the Andretti team, meaning he’s contributed two other victories in his INDY NXT career to help the team reach this achievement. This cornerstone victory is a testament to the 21 years of hard work, dedication and execution across the Andretti INDY NXT program, which has seen many different talented drivers, crew members and engineers over the years.

It’s important to acknowledge not only this winning moment, but some of the other core memories that have shaped the team into what it is today. None of this would be possible without Andretti’s unwavering commitment to driver development and how it impacts both the future of the team and the next generation of talent in North American open-wheel racing.

Road America Weekend Recap

Over the weekend, Lochie Hughes made impressive moves from fourth to first to secure his third INDY NXT victory and the well-deserved 100th win for the Andretti INDY NXT team. Joining Hughes on the podium in second place was teammate Pierson, who started fifth and vaulted up to second in the final moments of the race.

“This win has taken a lot longer than I originally expected,” said Hughes, “but it was a good way to do it, going from fourth to first with a few cool outside moves going into Turn 1. I knew we could do it. It just doesn’t seem like everything has come together recently, so it’s nice when it finally does. I knew it was only a matter of time. Obviously, it takes a bit of pressure off, and it’s a good result. I feel like it’s good for the team to get their 100th win as well.”

Important Wins Along the Way

These recent achievements are not the only times that Andretti has made history on the Wisconsin track. In 2024, Jamie Chadwick not only secured win number 83 for the Andretti INDY NXT team but also became the first woman to win an INDY NXT race on a road or street course and only the third woman to capture victory in series history.

In addition to Chadwick’s historic victory at Road America, the Andretti INDY NXT team has contributed to other key overall team milestones, such as last year at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, when Dennis Hauger secured the 300th win for Andretti Global across all series.

Hauger is one of the seven INDY NXT Champions to come out of the Andretti program, contributing six wins to the team’s grand total.

Another Champion to graduate from the Andretti INDY NXT program is current Andretti INDYCAR driver, Kyle Kirkwood, who currently holds the record for the most single-season wins in INDY NXT history (tied with Greg Moore). During his Championship-winning 2021 season with Andretti, he captured an impressive 10 victories out of 20 races.

Program History and Growth

These victories are only a snapshot of the full story of Andretti Global INDY NXT’s history. Since its inception in 2005, the team has created many valuable memories and paved the way for the future of INDYCAR.

By dedicating years of time, resources and top-notch talent to its development program, Andretti understands the importance of investing in the next generation of drivers. From its INDY NXT program alone, over half of the drivers who have come through the program have made at least one INDYCAR start following their time in INDY NXT. In fact, the Andretti program has on many occasions opened the door for INDY NXT graduates to have robust careers in INDYCAR, including popular drivers such as Marco Andretti, Colton Herta, Kyle Kirkwood, Pato O’Ward, Christian Rasmussen, Louis Foster, Dennis Hauger, Sting Ray Robb and more.

Andretti’s commitment to developing the racing stars of tomorrow doesn’t stop with INDY NXT. In fact, Andretti Global announced last year that the then-eight-year-old Zayne Burgess joined its ambitious Driver Development program designed to support young talents in reaching pinnacle levels of motorsport. With Andretti Global and Gainbridge’s support, the young driver is making waves in karting, as he recently secured the 2025 Rotax MAX Challenge Championship and came second in the 2025 Superkarts! USA Championship standings. Outside of karting, Andretti Global and Gainbridge are providing support for Sebastian (17) and Oliver Wheldon (15) as they work their way up the open-wheel racing system. Although they are both near the beginning of their own racing careers, the brothers already boast impressive stats as Sebastian, 2023 Skip Barber Race Series champion, recently wrapped up his first season in the FIA Formula 4 Championship at the end of 2025, where he secured six wins and finished third overall in the Championship standings. Oliver, 2024 Skip Barber Race Series champion, most recently spent the last year racing in USF Juniors Presented by Continental Tire.

Beyond the Milestone

A 100-win milestone is not something this team has accomplished lightly. It has taken over 20 years of commitment and execution across multiple sectors of the organization to achieve this monumental mark. Andretti’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of talent is evident in its accolades and sustained success over time.

From fostering Champions to staying on the cutting edge of competitive racing, the Andretti INDY NXT team is always hunting for methods to remain leaders in the racing industry. The 100th win not only symbolizes a robust history of success but also a bright outlook for the team’s future. The team is excited to carry this positive momentum through the rest of the season and beyond. There are many more podiums to celebrate and records to break, and Andretti INDY NXT is looking forward to taking on the challenge.
