Jake Dennis’ Top Five Moments With Andretti Formula E

With Jake Dennis now confirmed to continue with Andretti Formula E through Season 13 and beyond, we thought it was the perfect excuse to reflect on the performances that have defined his time with the team so far. Since joining Andretti Formula E in Season 7, Dennis has progressed from Formula E rookie to a World Champion, breaking records and delivering race wins, pole positions and podium finishes across multiple generations of cars and regulation changes. His results have been achieved through a combination of consistency, race management and the ability to deliver when Championship pressure is at its highest. With great difficulty, we’ve chosen the top five moments of the British driver’s time with Andretti Formula E.
5. 2024 Diriyah E-Prix I – Sixth Career Win and Second Largest All-Time Winning Margin
Round 2 of Season 10 at the 2024 Diriyah E-Prix I marked Dennis’ second race since wrapping up the Formula E Drivers’ World Championship in Season 9 and earning the right to carry the No. 1 on his car.
After a strong qualifying performance, earning him third place on the starting grid for the opening race of the Diriyah doubleheader, Dennis executed a controlled and effective strategy to move into the lead by Lap 4 as cars ahead activated Attack Mode early. By offsetting his strategy to those around him, the Brit was able to build a gap big enough to take his second Attack Mode on Lap 8 and stay ahead of Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans and DS Penske’s Jean-Éric Vergne. With both Attack Modes taken and holding track position, Dennis was able to manage his energy efficiently and fend off an optimistic lunge from Evans on Lap 14 that saw the New Zealander go deep into Turn 18. Dennis’ lead never looked in doubt after that, with the reigning champion going on to extend his advantage in the latter stages of the race, setting fastest lap after fastest lap.
Dennis went on to take victory by 13.289 seconds, the second-largest winning margin in Formula E history and the largest of the GEN3 era. He also set the fastest lap of the race by three tenths of a second and led 33 laps, his second-highest total-laps-led tally in a single E-Prix.
The result marked Dennis’ sixth career Formula E victory and his first win since being crowned World Champion the previous season, reinforcing his and the team’s ability to convert pace into dominant race results.
4. 2022 SABIC London E-Prix I – First Career Grand Slam on Home Soil
Dennis’ relationship with the London E-Prix has been synonymous with success since his debut in the British capital. In Season 7, he won the opening race of the London doubleheader and finished ninth in Race 2. One year later, and expectations were as high as ever.
At the 2022 SABIC London E-Prix I in Season 8, Dennis delivered a complete performance in front of his home crowd at the ExCeL London Circuit. He secured pole position, led every lap of the race, set the fastest lap and claimed victory, achieving his first Formula E Grand Slam.
Dennis led all 37 laps of the race, the most he has led in a single E-Prix to date, and set the fastest lap on Lap 19, four tenths of a second quicker than the next-best competitor. The result made Dennis the third driver in Formula E history to achieve a Grand Slam.
The London performance demonstrated Dennis’ ability to control a race from the front on one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar, combining pace, physical endurance and strategic awareness across the full race distance.
3. 2021 DHL Valencia E-Prix II – Maiden Formula E Victory in just his Sixth Start
Dennis’ first Formula E victory came remarkably early in his all-electric career. After scoring his first points in Race 1 of the 2021 DHL Valencia E-Prix weekend with an eighth-place finish, the Brit returned the following day to secure pole position and a lights-to-flag victory in Race 2.
In only his sixth start in the Championship, the rookie delivered a measured and technically strong drive at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, managing energy usage effectively while maintaining track position at the front of the field. Valencia’s high-speed layout and emphasis on energy management made the result particularly impressive for a first-year Formula E driver.
The win marked several career firsts for Dennis: his first pole position, first podium, first race win, first race led and first laps led in Formula E. He crossed the line with a controlled margin to second place, having balanced pace and efficiency throughout the E-Prix. The victory confirmed Dennis as a long-term prospect within the Championship and laid the foundation for his continued development with Andretti Formula E.
2. 2023 Hankook Rome E-Prix II – Second Career Grand Slam During Title Fight
The 2023 Hankook Rome E-Prix weekend was a pivotal moment in Dennis’ Season 9 Championship campaign. After a challenging outcome in Race 1 when a late-race energy issue dropped him from first to fourth, Dennis and the Andretti Formula E team responded immediately in Race 2 the very next day.
The British driver secured pole position in the Final Duel against Championship rival Nick Cassidy and went on to deliver a lights-to-flag victory, leading every lap, setting the fastest lap and achieving his second career Formula E Grand Slam. No other driver has achieved more than one Grand Slam in the series.
The race took place in extreme conditions, with a record-breaking heatwave sweeping Europe and pushing temperatures to 107 degrees Fahrenheit as track temperatures reached a staggering 158 degrees Fahrenheit, adding further emphasis to the physical and technical demands of the performance. Dennis’ controlled approach, combined with effective team strategy and energy management, allowed him to build a decisive points advantage heading into the season finale.
The Rome result provided maximum Championship points (29) and extended Dennis’ lead over Cassidy to 24 points with one race weekend remaining, placing him in a strong position to secure the Drivers’ World Championship.
Honorable mentions
In addition to his top-five moments, Dennis has delivered several standout drives and strategic performances that reflect his consistency and race craft. Considered for the top five, these moments didn’t quite make the final cut but we felt they still deserve some recognition.
These include a drive from 14th to fourth at the 2025 Tokyo E-Prix II, gaining ten positions on a circuit where overtaking is limited, a charge from 19th to fourth at the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix II that briefly saw him lead the race for two laps and a podium recovery from 16th to second at the 2025 Hankook Berlin E-Prix II. Also worthy of a mention was his 2024 Misano E-Prix performance, recovering from pre-race damage during a spin in the pitlane to finish second from his starting position of 18th.
1. 2023 Hankook London E-Prix I – Securing the Drivers’ World Championship
The defining moment of Dennis’ Formula E career to date came at the 2023 Hankook London E-Prix I, where he secured the ABB FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Championship with one race remaining. Arriving at the Season 9 finale weekend with a 24-point lead over Envision Racing’s Cassidy, Dennis qualified strongly despite some early frustrations in Free Practice sessions and lined up third on the grid.
The race itself proved to be one of the most disrupted and strategically challenging of the season. The first Formula E race with two red flag periods, safety car interventions and Attack Mode complications created an environment where track position, timing and awareness were constantly shifting. For a driver managing a Championship lead, the complexity was amplified as rivals were fully aware that Dennis could not afford to take the same risks as those around him.
As the lights went out, Cassidy worked with teammate Sébastien Buemi to get the Swiss driver up into second, strategically blocking Dennis from Turns 2 to 3. With Dennis dropping to third in the opening phase, the Envision duo attempted to control the pace and create a gap for Cassidy to take his mandatory Attack Modes. However, the race turned decisively when the two Envision teammates came together on track during Lap 15, damaging Cassidy’s car and effectively ending his title challenge before the midpoint of the E-Prix.
With his closest rival out, Dennis’ focus shifted entirely to finishing in the top three as victory from current race leader Mitch Evans would mean the Brit would require 15 points to wrap up the title. Despite two Attack Mode activation issues and another red flag period with one lap to go, Dennis was able to maintain strong positioning at the front of the field and carefully balanced energy usage with track position.
By the checkered flag, Dennis crossed the line third on track, a result that guaranteed the Drivers’ World Championship regardless of the outcome of the final race on Sunday, with a penalty for Porsche’s da Costa ahead promoting him to second. Dennis secured the title on home soil, in front of a British crowd, becoming the first World Champion crowned on UK soil since Alain Prost in 1985 during the European Grand Prix at Brands Hatch.
The championship represented a landmark achievement for both Dennis and Andretti Formula E. Operating as a customer team, Andretti and Dennis delivered a Drivers’ World Championship through a season defined by consistency and sustained performance. Dennis recorded multiple race wins, a unbeaten record-breaking 11 podium finishes in a single season, 12 top-five finishes in a 16-race season, five fastest laps, two pole positions and a record 229 Championship points that still stands today.
The 2023 Hankook London E-Prix I remains the clearest example of Dennis’ maturity as a Championship contender; managing pressure, adapting to chaos and delivering the required result when the margins were at their smallest. It stands as the most significant moment of his career to date and the benchmark against which future successes with Andretti Formula E will be measured.
Looking ahead
Dennis’ third contract extension reflects the strength and stability of his relationship with Andretti Formula E. Since joining the team in Season 7, Dennis has played a central role in its competitive progress, culminating in a Drivers’ World Championship and sustained front-running performances.
As Formula E continues to evolve through its continuous technological advancements, Andretti and Dennis remain aligned in their ambition to compete consistently at the front of the field. With this extension in place through Season 13 and beyond, the focus now turns to building on an already successful partnership, finishing out Season 12 as strongly as possible and delivering further results in the years ahead.
Across the opening five races of Season 12, Dennis has stayed in the Championship picture with a win in São Paulo followed by a fifth-place finish in Mexico City, where he also secured the Fastest Lap. Additional point finishes in Miami (10th) and Jeddah (ninth) have helped keep him in the fight for a second title. Dennis now sits eighth in the Drivers’ standings, just 29 points from the lead, with 12 races still to run in what remains a wide-open title fight.
The Brit returns to action next at Round 6 in Madrid, with Spain holding special significance as the country of his maiden Formula E victory, making him the most recent race winner there and the driver with the strongest record in Spain, having scored a total of 33 points.
