Andretti INDY NXT Indianapolis Grand Prix Race 2 Report
Race Notes
The Andretti INDY NXT team closed the Indianapolis Grand Prix doubleheader weekend in commanding form with a win on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course as Louis Foster scored his first victory of 2024.
Today’s win is Andretti INDY NXT’s eighth win on the IMS road course and 83rd INDY NXT victory overall. Also, Foster’s victory and Jamie Chadwick’s third-place finish yesterday brings the team’s podium count to 19 on the famed road course.
Louis Foster led the Andretti INDY NXT team today as the Brit scored his third career INDY NXT win and the team’s first victory of the season. From his second-row starting position, Foster quickly moved into the fight for the lead as he advanced from fourth to battling for second by Lap 9. The move for the win came with 10 laps to go as Foster passed the No. 18 in Turn 11 and never looked back. Foster recorded the fastest lap of the race with a quick time of 1:06.435.
Despite a disappointing start to his weekend in Race 1, James Roe came ready for redemption as he started Race 2 once again in third. While the opening laps saw Roe drop to fourth, the Irishman held onto his top-five position for the remainder of the 35-lap race to come away with a fourth-place finish and his 16th top-10 INDY NXT finish.
Andretti Cape INDY NXT teammate Michael d’Orlando was able to come back from yesterday’s penalty setback to maintain a clean race and steadily navigate his was up from his starting position to finish just outside of the top five.
Yesterday’s race saw Salvador de Alba face a setback after a restart incident, but today the Andretti Cape INDY NXT driver was able to move his way four spots up the field after traffic at the start set him back a few spots. He ultimately took the checkered in the top 10, the third one of his INDY NXT career.
Coming off her first career INDY NXT podium in Race 1 yesterday, Jamie Chadwick took today’s green from sixth and was quickly up two spots into fourth in the opening laps. Unfortunately, the No. 28 experienced an electrical issue that caused Chadwick to drop out of the top five and back to 17th. Chadwick was able to gain a spot as the race progressed and took the checkered flag in 16th.
Taking the Race 2 start just outside the top 10, Bryce Aron had contact on the opening lap of the 35-lap race and reported possible tire damage from the incident. The No. 27 was issued a drive-through penalty for avoidable contact and fell to the back of the field.
Race Results
Louis Foster No. 26 Copart / Novara Technologies Dallara
Andretti INDY NXT
P1
Started: P4
Standings: 3rd (142pts)
“All around really good job for the No. 26 crew, I’m super happy with today’s outcome. During the race I knew my tires were good since I was looking after them the whole time, and that let me pull away from Jacob [Abel] and win the race. I learned from yesterday and was able turn that experience here into a win today. Massive thank you to my sponsors for making this happen and I’m looking forward to doing the same in Detroit.”
Bryce Aron No. 27 Jaguar Land Rover Chesterfield Dallara
Andretti INDY NXT
P19
Started: P11
Standings: 14th (62pts)
“It was a really difficult weekend for us. Started off really promising both races and we were the third quickest in practice and the fastest rookie. That speed transfered into the races, but we just got caught up in incidents. It’s just one of those things that’s really difficult. We have a good car and I think that we can turn things around in the future. It’s only a matter of time until we start getting the results that we deserve. Thanks to Andretti for giving me a great car.”
Jamie Chadwick No. 28 VEXT Dallara
Andretti INDY NXT
P16
Started: P6
Standings: 13th (69pts)
“Today was super frustrating. We had a good one going in the beginning of the race, but then some electrical issues came up and that meant that we couldn’t really progress anymore. I stuck it out until the end, but I still feel a bit gutted to lose what would have been, I think, maybe a top-five or maybe another podium finish today. So, great weekend as a whole, but a bit of a bittersweet ending.”
James Roe No. 29 Topcon Dallara
Andretti INDY NXT
P4
Started: P3
Standings: 7th (96pts)
“It was a coulda, woulda, shoulda kind of weekend. There was a lot of pace, however, we just had a messy start after getting hit and knocked out of position. We fell back and then just climbed our way back forward. I think the pace was awesome and it was a hard fought fourth position. I don’t think I ever fought so hard for a top-five finish, but now we’re onto Detroit.”
Salvador de Alba No. 2 Grupo Indi Dallara
Andretti Cape INDY NXT
P9
Started: P13
Standings: 11th (83pts)
“We got another top-10 for the Championship and we’re obviously happy with that. It was a bit of a rough start and with some chaos up at the front set us back a bit, but I eventually moved back up. We’ve definitely improved our pace, which is what we were hoping to do. So we’ll take the points and see everyone in Detroit.”
Michael d’Orlando No. 3 Priority / Rising Star Racing Dallara
Andretti Cape INDY NXT
P6
Started: P9
Standings: 6th (104pts)
“I’m feeling really proud of that one. That run was much better today than it was yesterday in terms of results. The Andretti Cape crew definitely put together a great car for this weekend. We worked our way up from ninth to sixth place all while Nolan [Siegel] and James [Roe] were fighting it out, and I just couldn’t make it happen in those last couple of laps to keep moving up. I’m really proud of what the team and I did together today. A big thank you to Rising Star Racing and Priority Technology Holdings for making this happen for me and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do at the next one.”
Don Lambert Team Manager
“It was a hard fought weekend for the team, but we had good finishes by Jamie and Louis. Today Louis had a perfectly executed drive to take the win and that’s what we love to see! Also, what a great drive by James Roe holding off Siegel for a fourth-place finish, nicely done. It was unfortunate that Jamie had those electrical issues and Bryce saw the penalty that sent them both back, but we’ll keep pushing forward there. Now, the team gets ready to do it all again in Detroit!”
