Andretti Formula E Returns to Spain for Historic Madrid Race

Andretti Formula E heads to Spain for the 2026 CUPRA Raval Madrid E-Prix at the iconic Circuito de Madrid Jarama, marking the Championship’s return to racing in Spain after a five-year hiatus. One of the longest and most technical circuits on the Season 12 calendar, the 3.934km, 14-turn layout is defined by its narrow, undulating nature coupled with significant elevation change and constant direction shifts, demanding precision and commitment from drivers. Designed by the legendary John Hugenholtz, Jarama’s flowing rhythm and limited margin for error are set to produce a challenging and strategy-driven race.
Spain has been home to a successful history for Andretti Formula E, with the team having led more laps there than any other competitor, carrying a legacy that stretches back to Mario Andretti’s Formula 1 successes at Jarama. The venue also holds special significance for Jake Dennis, who claimed his first Formula E points, pole position and victory on Spanish soil the last time the series raced there. Felipe Drugovich returns to Europe, where he last scored Formula E points with a seventh-place finish at the 2025 Hankook Berlin E-Prix II, as Andretti looks to translate its strong testing pace at Jarama into a competitive race performance.
Following the 2026 Cupra Raval Madrid E-Prix, Andretti Formula E will field two highly rated junior drivers for the 2026 Madrid Rookie Test, Freddie Slater and Callum Voisin, marking the first time the mandatory rookie outing takes place outside of Berlin since 2023. The Rookie Test continues to play a key role in identifying future Formula E talent, with several current full-time drivers having previously taken part, including Andretti’s Drugovich, who finished first and fourth in the 2023 and 2024 rookie tests.

“Coming off the back of a demanding doubleheader in Jeddah, we had plenty of positives to take away for the rest of the season. Qualifying on the front row on Saturday was a big improvement from Friday and what we achieved last year. Although we would’ve liked to come away with some more points, I’m still feeling confident heading into Madrid, which, in some aspects, is somewhat similar to the Jeddah street circuit.
Jarama is a very technically demanding circuit due to its high-speed nature, which means that you need a lot of confidence in your car and the setup. We had a great preseason test at the circuit before Season 11, so I’m feeling confident with our potential and my driving ability, which we’ll be aiming to convert to a strong qualifying and a top-three finish.
I’ve had some success racing in Spain. It’s where I scored my first points and got my first win in Valencia. Although that doesn’t quite translate to a new circuit in terms of performance, it nonetheless gives you some confidence. It’s also great to be back and racing in Spain. We had a good turnout for testing last time we were at Jarama, so hopefully we’ll see some packed grandstands come race day.”

“Jeddah was a really important weekend for me in terms of learning. It was my first proper energy management race in Formula E, so understanding how the race evolves, when to push and when to save was a big focus. We didn’t quite get the results we wanted, but I felt like I learned a lot about how to manage the race and work with the team strategically. That experience should help a lot going into Jarama, which is a very different style of circuit but will still require good energy management and discipline across the race.
It’s always special to come back to Europe. Many of the tracks here have so much history and Jarama is definitely one of those circuits that drivers know and respect. The atmosphere racing in Spain is always great too, so I’m looking forward to that. The team had a positive test in Season 11, which gives us a good reference going into the weekend. Of course, conditions can be different during a race event, but it’s nice to come back somewhere where the team already has data and experience. I’m feeling confident and the focus for me will be continuing to build my understanding of the car, putting everything together in qualifying and then executing a clean race.”

Team Principal

“Overall, we were disappointed in the outcome from Jeddah, especially after a very strong showing with our pace in practice and qualifying. That said, it means we have some positives to take into Madrid. Strategy will once again be very important in the upcoming race, particularly now that PIT BOOST has been incorporated into the weekend. The Circuito del Jarama is a real “driver’s circuit” – a classic racetrack with plenty of technical challenges, elevation changes, blind corners and more. The barriers are not that far away either, so getting a good lap might be straightforward, but having great lap is another matter!
As with every event, we head there with an expectation of securing strong results. The level of preparation that we put into each event is significant. Although the Andretti Formula E team has a great track record racing in Spain, as always, past success does not guarantee future results, so we have to keep evolving. Knowing that we were quick last time out in Jarama should give us confidence in the base set up, and after that we have to ensure the set up follows the track evolution so that we can maximize the car performance.”
