Andretti Global Kickstarts the Month of May on the IMS Road Course

Andretti Global’s INDYCAR and INDY NXT teams kick off the Month of May this weekend on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. Fast Facts

INDYCAR
- Throughout Andretti Global’s 12 appearances at the Sonsio GP, the INDYCAR team has secured one win (Herta – 2022), three podiums, 12 top-10 finishes and led 75 laps.
Will Power
- With three wins and five poles, including back-to-back wins and poles in 2017 and 2018, Will Power heads into his 13th Sonsio Grand Prix this weekend with a strong history on the IMS road course.
- During last year’s Sonsio Grand Prix, the Australian driver started seventh and steadily worked his way up the field. Power ran fifth at the halfway point and used a strong overcut to move into a podium position. This result earned him his first podium of the season and his third consecutive top-five finish at the time.
Kyle Kirkwood
- Kyle Kirkwood returns for his fifth Indy GP start this weekend after delivering his best finish at the 2025 event.
- Last year, Kirkwood started 21st and quickly moved through the field. He climbed as high as sixth before a late, untimely yellow dropped the No. 27 back. The Florida native went on to take the checkered in eighth after gaining 13 positions over 85 laps.
Marcus Ericsson
- Kicking off the Month of May, 2022 Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson looks to add a road course win at IMS as he makes his eighth Sonsio GP start.
- The Swede has four top-10 finishes on the 2.439-mile road course with a best result of fourth in 2022.
- In the 2025 race, Ericsson gained two spots early and was running 18th before contact on Lap 6 forced him to pit. After taking the No. 28 behind the wall for further evaluation, the team decided to retire from the race, ending Ericsson’s race day early.

“The Indy GP is one we all really look forward to every year. It’s one of the best road courses we race on. Given our performance at Barber, I think we’re excited for every road course coming up on the calendar. “The Month of May is here, and it’s always super special to be racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, even when it’s not on the big oval. For the No. 28 Allegra crew, we’re bringing some good momentum to the Indy GP. We found some things at Barber on the road courses that felt very promising, so we’re looking to build on that and have a strong start here in Indy.”

Ron Ruzewski
Team Principal

“For the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, May is the month that highlights our season with the Indianapolis 500 on Memorial Day. The best way to lead into this event is with the Indy GP. This circuit offers some challenges we don’t see at most other venues. Will Power has had a lot of success at this event, and we hope to see his winning ways continue with the Andretti team. Kyle and Marcus have shown great speed all season, and there’s no better way to build momentum into this month than with a solid race on the road course. We’ll be pushing to get all of these guys on the podium.”
