1.7.26

After a pair of successful outings with Andretti Formula E in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s Season 11 and Season 12 Women’s Tests, Spanish racing driver Nerea Martí will continue her growing relationship with the team as a Team Ambassador for Season 12. Martí will represent Andretti Formula E at the Mexico City, Miami and Madrid E-Prix weekends, connecting with fans and partners in key global markets, while also supporting the team’s race preparation through simulator work across the season. In the Q&A below, Martí details her new role, her experience working with the team and what she’s most excited about in Season 12.

Becoming an Andretti Ambassador

What was your first reaction to joining Andretti Formula E as Team Ambassador for Season 12?

It was an immense honor—not only because Formula E is such a forward-thinking, sustainability-focused championship, but because I’m doing it with the Andretti brand. As someone who is very passionate about racing and motorsport history, becoming part of a team with such an iconic name and incredible legacy is unbelievably special. Andretti and the TWG Motorsport organization’s presence across multiple categories demonstrates the scale and vision of the project. Those values resonate deeply with me as a driver, and I honestly couldn’t be happier.

You previously worked with the team during Formula E’s Women’s Tests. What made you want to continue that relationship in an ambassador role?

After two years working with Andretti Formula E during the Women’s Tests, it was clear that I wanted to continue my involvement with the team. I love the way they work, how everyone here lives and breathes racing; the passion they bring to everything they do is inspiring. It’s a team with a mentality that really matches mine, and I’m excited to start my journey with the team as an ambassador.

How would you describe your ambassador role to a fan meeting you for the first time?

My role as an ambassador is about representing the Andretti name and its values at Formula E circuits around the world. It’s about connecting with fans, bringing them closer to the team and the Championship while helping share what makes Formula E and Andretti so special. I see it as being a link between the team and the fans, especially in key markets, while continuing to contribute from a performance perspective.

Racing Journey

In addition to your responsibilities as an ambassador, you’re still involved in the performance side of Andretti through simulator work. What do you enjoy most about that technical side?

Formula E is an incredibly complex and constantly evolving Championship from a technical point of view. The software, energy management and technology involved are very challenging, but that’s what makes it so enjoyable. As a driver, I’ve always loved learning and pushing myself with new challenges, and Formula E is one of the most demanding categories in that sense. Understanding how everything works and adapting to such a unique racecar makes it a fascinating yet rewarding challenge.

What’s something fans might not realize about how important simulator work is?

Simulators today are incredibly accurate and reliable. They allow teams to save resources, not only in terms of cost but also by reducing travel and environmental impact. In a Championship like Formula E, where efficiency and sustainability are key, simulator work is essential. It allows us to prepare countless E-Prix scenarios and arrive at race weekends well prepared, making a real difference on track. During the off-season, the team spent a great deal of time on what we call Driver In Loop (DIL) simulations which clearly paid off when we won the opening race in São Paulo.

How have your experiences in F1 Academy, W Series, and Formula E Women’s Tests shaped you as a driver?

I’ve been very fortunate to move into single seaters from such a young age, from karting to Formula 4, W Series and F1 Academy. Racing on Formula 1 weekends brought huge exposure and pressure, but it also helped me grow very quickly as a driver. The Formula E Women’s Tests followed that same philosophy of creating opportunities and visibility for women in motorsport. Knowing that I can potentially inspire the next generation of young girls to believe in themselves and chase their dreams is incredibly meaningful to me.

Looking Ahead to Season 12

You’ll be with the team in Mexico City, Miami and Madrid. Which race are you most excited for and why?

Mexico and Miami are both very special places to me because they are circuits that I know well. I raced and won in Mexico last year in Formula 4, and I’ve also competed in Miami with W Series and the E1 electric raceboat series. I have great memories from both. They’re two countries with an incredible passion for motorsport, and it’s going to be fantastic to see Formula E racing there firsthand. But it’s no secret that attending Madrid will be what I’m most looking forward to. It’s my home country, it’s Formula E’s first E-Prix in Spain in five years and it takes place at Jarama; the track I made my Formula E test debut with Andretti. Sharing that weekend with all the local fans will be unforgettable.

What does it mean to represent Andretti in Spanish-speaking markets and connect with fans across Spain and the Americas?

It’s a real privilege. Andretti may be an American team, but it has a truly global identity. The name Andretti is known amongst motorsport fans worldwide and the very best in the world have raced for the brand across various categories. There’s a lot of respect and affection for the Andretti name in Spanish-speaking countries, particularly in Spain, so being able to represent that legacy in those markets is very special to me.

What do you hope young girls take away from meeting you at the circuit?

I love the idea that I can be a role model for future generations. Seeing more and more girls in karting and single seaters is incredibly inspiring. I’m really looking forward to meeting young fans at races, answering their questions and helping them feel that motorsport, and Formula E, is a place where they belong and where they can dream big.

Life Beyond the Cockpit

Describe yourself in three words.

Competitive, disciplined and focused.

What’s one thing fans might be surprised to learn about you away from racing?

Away from the track, I’m quite calm and relaxed. I enjoy quiet moments, and I value balance, which helps me stay focused and grounded when competition gets intense.

How do you relax or recharge when you aren’t training, traveling or driving?

I like to disconnect by spending time with family and friends, listening to music and staying active in a more relaxed way, whether that’s going for a walk or doing light workouts.

Heading to Mexico with Momentum

How does it feel to join the team after Jake Dennis’ season-opening win in São Paulo?

It’s amazing to see the team start Season 12 with a win in São Paulo. I’m excited to experience the energy inside the garage during a race weekend – something I already loved during the pre-season tests. Arriving in Mexico with that momentum makes it even more special, and hopefully it’s just the beginning.

What are you most excited to experience at the Mexico City E-Prix weekend?

The racing, of course, but also the culture and the atmosphere. I love discovering new places and especially the local food. Tacos are definitely high on my list – I’ll just have to be careful with the spice!

Mexico has some of the most passionate fans in motorsport. What message would you like to share with them ahead of the weekend?

I raced in Mexico last year during a Formula 1 weekend in Formula 4, and it was an unforgettable experience, especially driving through the Foro Sol and feeling the incredible atmosphere. I’m already counting down the days and getting my suitcase ready, because I can’t wait to wear Andretti colors in front of such passionate and amazing fans.
