Dennis Hauger prepares for Andretti Formula E debut with Free Practice 0 Opportunity at 2026 Miami E-Prix

1.21.26

After a highly successful 2025 season with the Andretti INDY NXT team, Norwegian racing driver Dennis Hauger will make his first official appearance with the American organization in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, representing Andretti Formula E during the 2026 Miami E-Prix Free Practice 0 session. Hauger’s outing at the team’s home race will provide him with a first-hand opportunity to experience the GEN3 Evo car in a race weekend environment, while also contributing to the team’s preparations for Round 3 of Season 12.

In the Q&A below, Hauger details his previous Formula E experience, his career highlights and what he is most looking forward to during his time with Andretti Formula E. The 40-minute session will take place on Friday, January 30, at 2:30 PM ET and will be streamed live on the official ABB FIA Formula E YouTube Channel below.

Free Practice 0 Opportunity and Formula E

How did the opportunity to take part in the 2026 Miami E-Prix Free Practice 0 session come about?

Having already tested with Porsche at the 2024 Berlin Rookie Test and with my ongoing relationship with Andretti Global, it felt like a natural step to explore the opportunity to take part in the Free Practice 0 session this year. When I was approached, I was excited to not only gain more experience in Formula E, but also to do it with a team I know and trust. It’s a great chance to learn and contribute during an important weekend for the team.

You previously took part in the 2024 Berlin Rookie Test with the GEN3 car. What were your first impressions of Formula E then and what are your expectations for the upgraded GEN3 Evo package?

The 2024 Berlin Test was my first experience in a Formula E car, and it was a really positive surprise. The car felt responsive, and the instant torque and power definitely took me by surprise, but in a good way. There’s a lot of technology and software to understand compared to what I’m used to in other series, but I really enjoyed the challenge and learning process. Looking ahead to Miami, I’m intrigued to see how much the car has evolved with the new GEN3 Evo package since my last outing. From everything I’ve seen and heard, it’s a step up in performance and efficiency, so I can’t wait to get behind the wheel and experience it firsthand.

What is your process for learning a new track in a limited session like Free Practice 0 and what do you expect to be the biggest challenge adapting to the GEN3 Evo car?

For me, learning a new track is all about the preparation and making the most of the time you have with the team before taking to the track. Simulator work is essential as it allows me to study the circuit and understand the braking points and racing lines, which also lets me anticipate how the car may behave differently in certain areas when the time comes to drive. The biggest challenge will be getting comfortable with the specific nuances of the Formula E car, everything from the instant acceleration to the software-driven systems that heavily influence performance and energy management. There’s also a lot of technical feedback that needs to be given during the session to help get the car into the right window for both Jake and Felipe. Still, with all the preparation we’ve done, I feel we can hit the ground running and make the session as productive as possible.

How do you approach getting the most out of the 40-minute Free Practice 0 session and what do you hope to learn that will be valuable for both you and the team on their home race weekend?

My main goal is to absorb as much as possible – understanding how the car behaves in different conditions, how the software affects each lap, how the tires respond so we can maximize performance and so on. At the same time, I want to help the team get up to speed quickly by completing test items efficiently and providing useful feedback thereafter. With only a 40-minute session, it’s all about learning fast and contributing wherever possible.

Andretti Global and Racing Career

You had a very successful 2025 season with Andretti Global in the INDY NXT Championship, which led to your promotion to compete in the NTT INDYCAR Series with Dale Coyne Racing this year. Do you think this experience will help prepare you for Formula E?

Competing in INDY NXT and now stepping up to INDYCAR has taught me a lot about consistency, car setup and working closely with engineers to maximize performance. My first impressions of Andretti, having worked with them both in INDY NXT and now Formula E, have been outstanding. The level of professionalism and attention to detail is incredible. Being familiar with the team and how they operate is a good advantage. I think it will help us get up to speed quickly in Miami while also translating what I’ve learned from American open-wheel racing into the world of Formula E.

How do opportunities such as this Free Practice 0 outing with Andretti Formula E fit into your long-term development as a driver?

As a racing driver, being offered the opportunity to get an experience like this is always positive. Trying different cars, learning new technology and adapting to unique challenges always makes you a more well-rounded driver. Formula E is fascinating in particular because of the emphasis on energy management and efficiency – skills that are becoming increasingly more relevant across motorsport hybridization across many different series. Every time you get behind the wheel of something new, you gain knowledge that you can take away and help shape you into a better driver. To experience the GEN3 Evo package at the team’s home race makes it even more special.

Looking back at your career so far, what are some of your highlights that stand out the most?

Winning the Formula 3 Championship in 2021 is definitely a major highlight. It was a tough debut season the year before, so to come back and lead the title fight from start to finish was really special. Other standout moments include my Formula 2 wins, particularly taking victory in Monaco, which was incredible. The moment that means the most to me right now has to be winning the INDY NXT Championship last year with Andretti. That season helped me grow both personally and professionally, and it directly led to my INDYCAR seat this year, so it definitely ranks up there as one of my valuable and memorable achievements in my career so far.

Fans and Home Race Excitement

What are you most excited about for your Free Practice 0 session at the 2026 Miami E-Prix?

Opportunities like this are always exciting, but doing it at the team’s home race makes it even more special. The atmosphere, buzz in the team and all the home fans adds a unique energy which is something I’m really looking forward to experiencing.

Your session will be live streamed on YouTube – what do you hope fans who tune in, who have maybe not watched Formula E before, take away from seeing you in action in the GEN3 Evo?

I hope people who tune in, whether it’s their first time watching Formula E or they’re longtime fans, get a real sense of how fast and technologically advanced these cars are. The GEN3 Evo seems like a massive step up from what I drove two years ago, and Formula E seems to be a series that’s growing quickly in popularity. I’d encourage you to tune in and see just how exciting all-electric racing can be.
