RACE REPORT: 2025 Jeddah E-Prix II

2.15.25

  • Round 4 began this afternoon with a damp Free Practice 3 after overnight rain showered the Jeddah Corniche coastline post-race. As the checkered fell in the final practice session of the weekend, Nico Mueller finished 14th, while teammate Jake Dennis suffered another battery issue and was unable to set a competitive lap time, consequently finishing 20th.
  • Split into separate Qualifying groups once again, both Andretti Porsche 99X Electrics struggled to find grip and neither proceeded into the Duel stages. Dennis finished 10th in Group A, with Mueller 11th in Group B.
  • Today’s race saw Dennis take the green in 19th and Mueller in 21st. Both Andretti Porsche 99X Electrics opted for an energy-saving start to the E-Prix, allowing the Andretti duo to move forward into points-scoring positions early in the race.
  • Dennis led two laps of the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix II, marking his 15th race leading a lap and taking his total laps led in Formula E competition to 232.
  • Rounding out a British top-four finish, a Formula E first, Dennis‘ fourth-place result today marks his 32nd Formula E top-five finish.
  • The 2025 Jeddah E-Prix II marked Mueller’s 50th Formula E race start.
  • The Andretti Formula E team remains eighth in the Team’s Championship Standings after increasing its points tally to 27.

No. 27 Andretti Porsche 99X Electric

Qualifying

  • Dennis struggled with braking during his Qualifying session, finishing 10th in the group.

Race

  • On the opening lap of today’s E-Prix, Dennis gained two positions due to contact ahead of him. From that point, he was able to save energy until taking his first Attack Mode on Lap 16.
  • Using the extra 50kWh of power, Dennis was able to make up nine positions to ninth place by Lap 19, setting the Fastest Lap of the race up to that point.
  • Dennis was up four percent on energy to the cars in front and was able to close the gap before taking his final Attack Mode on Lap 22, ensuring he did not lose track position in the process.
  • In the space of two laps, the No. 27 Andretti Porsche 99X Electric came from ninth to take the lead of the race using his Attack Mode.
  • Having led the race for two laps, Dennis was eventually overtaken by cars behind in Attack Mode, dropping to fifth.
  • On the final lap of the race, Dennis overtook DS Penske’s Jean-Éric Vergne at Turn 14, solidifying a fourth-place finish.

“We had a super exciting race today, and I’m really happy to finish fourth after starting at the back of the grid. We had a well optimized strategy and maximized our race, and I don’t think we could have got any more out of it. To score 12 points after the weekend we’ve had, I’m very, very happy. We’ll be working hard to make sure we’re in the points again at the team’s home race in Miami.”

Nico Mueller

No. 51 Andretti Porsche 99X Electric

Qualifying

  • Like his teammate, Mueller struggled in his Qualifying session, complaining of a lack of grip and ultimately finishing 11th.

Race

  • Mueller also capitalized on the opening-lap contact ahead of him, climbing up into 18th just behind teammate Dennis.
  • The No. 51 was the first of the Andretti Porsche 99X Electrics to take Attack Mode on Lap 12, gaining six positions by the time the extra power had run out.
  • With an efficient strategy for the opening sequence of the E-Prix, Mueller was able to make use of his five percent extra energy and apply pressure to the cars in front.
  • Taking his second Attack Mode on Lap 21, Mueller made his way up into the points-paying positions but the Swiss driver just narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish after being passed by two cars on the final lap.

“It’s been a complicated weekend in Jeddah, where we both struggled for pace in the Qualifying sessions. Starting from the back today, we tried an extreme strategy and managed to gain 10 places with it, but just missed out on the points which was frustrating. Jake had a very good race and was able to maximize the potential there, so congrats to him. We were a bit unlucky with how our strategy played out in the end but, ultimately, we were just not quite quick enough. With the break now, we’ll analyze and understand why and come back stronger for our home race in Miami.”

Roger Griffiths

Team Principal

“It was another difficult day for the team here in Jeddah, but ultimately the perseverance and the spirit of the team shone through. A remarkable drive from Jake coming from the back of the grid all the way through to fourth – we even saw the front for a brief period. That’s the spirit of this team, we all keep on fighting.

It was a smart strategy from the team, and they executed their plan as anticipated. We lacked a little bit of progress on the first Attack Mode, not quite gaining as many positions as we could have done with both cars, but considering where we started, coming away with fourth place after a tough weekend is a real credit to everybody.

Thank you to everybody in Jeddah. It’s fantastic to be able to race in such a progressive city with such a great racetrack. Next up for us will be our home race in Miami, which is going to be a big one. We’re really looking forward to it.”
