RACE REPORT: 2025 Mexico City E-Prix
Mexico City E-Prix Notes
- The 2025 Mexico City E-Prix kicked off yesterday afternoon with a relatively uneventful Free Practice 1, as Jake Dennis and Nico Mueller took to the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in the GEN3 Evo for the very first time, with Mueller finishing 13th and teammate Dennis just behind in 14th.
- On-track action resumed this morning with Free Practice 2 in wet, greasy conditions after overnight rain covered the track, marking the first time the GEN3 Evo spec has run on a damp track. - The weekend’s Qualifying session saw Mueller finish seventh in Group A while Dennis progressed to the Duels after finishing second in the opening qualifying group.
- Both Andretti Formula E drivers made strong progress at the start of the race, scoring five gained positions on the opening lap of the 36-lap race between Dennis and Mueller.
- The 2025 Mexico E-Prix saw a total of two safety cars, though no added laps due to the short length of both safety cars.
- With both cars finishing the day in the top 10, the Andretti Formula E team claimed its 110th and 111th top-10 finish in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
- After today’s results, the Andretti Formula E team advanced from 11th to seventh in the Team Championship Standings, having earned a total of 15 points in the Mexican capital.

“Finishing up in Mexico City and it’s been a fairly positive end to a somewhat difficult day. Overall, the team is happy and it’s great to have both cars finish in the top 10. Going into the race starting seventh, it was great that we were fighting for a podium the whole way. I’m leaving Round 2 very pleased with a fourth-place finish and the Fastest Lap. I wanted to try and close the gap to the front-runner but ultimately, we’re on the points board now and that’s the main takeaway. I’m keen to analyze the data from the race weekend so that we can start our preparations for Jeddah.”

Qualifying
- In Group A of Qualifying, Mueller showed strong pace in the opening stages of the session. Unfortunately, as the track evolved and lap times began to tumble, the No. 51 Andretti Porsche 99X Electric driver locked up heading into Turn 1, making it impossible for Mueller to improve. Consequently, Mueller finished seventh in the opening group, locking in an 11th-place starting position.
Race
- Like his teammate, Mueller was also able to capitalize on the start of the E-Prix, finding himself in eighth having gained three positions from his starting grid slot.
- On Lap 10 Mueller took his first Attack Mode Mode, dropping back to 10th. However, with the extra 350kW of power, the Swiss was able to make his way through the field up into sixth place by Lap 12.
- Shortly after on Lap 17, Mueller took his second Attack Mode and by Lap 20 had made his way up into third place and the podium position places. However, in progressing from his starting position of 11th to third, the No. 51 had to save energy for the end of the race and consequently the efficient driving dropped him down to fifth by Lap 20.
- Still running in fifth place, Mueller received contact from Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans after his car unexpectedly slowed on Lap 31. As a result, Mueller dropped to ninth place before the second safety car period where he would remain and take the checkered flag of the E-Prix, earning two championship points.
- Across the entire field, Mueller was able to make the most overtakes in Attack Mode during the race (10).
- The 2025 Mexico E-Prix marked Mueller’s 14th top 10 finish in his Formula E career.
“Generally, we’ve had many positives to take away from the weekend. The race went well from the get-go although it’s still not where we want to be. I think the package has proven to be very strong and though we might not have yet been able to extract all the potential, we took a step forward, especially on my side of the garage. We’ve scored our first points of the season, but it could have been a few more if it were not for the minor technical glitch that cost us a couple of positions. Our strategy wasn’t quite optimized, so had we have put it all together maybe we could have seen both cars in the top five. We still have some lessons to learn from that one, but a lot of positives to leave with also.”
lot’s of positives to take away & I‘m already looking forward to the next two races in Jeddah 🇸🇦

Team Principal
“After the disappointment of São Paulo, we bounced back with a strong result in today’s race in Mexico City. We saw another good performance from Jake to get into the Duels, but unfortunately we didn’t quite make it as far to the front of the grid as we’d have liked to. Nevertheless, it was a good result. We’d have also liked to have qualified higher up with Nico, however, I think we also benefitted from others’ misfortune which resulted in him starting in 11th.
In the race we executed really good teamwork today. We saw the drivers work well together, cooperating and helping each other out, with both of them steaming forward. Both made excellent progress through the race and it was great to see Jake leading a race again. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite have the pace to keep leading and ultimately fourth place was probably the best we could accomplish. For Nico, we were a little disappointed that we finished ninth, and I think he would say the same. We had a small issue in the closing laps where he lost a couple of positions which otherwise we believe would have been a strong seventh place. All that being said we’re in a great position to build upon heading into Jeddah. We all love coming to Mexico, and the fans are always incredibly welcoming and passionate, so hopefully we are able to continue racing here for years to come.”
