Andretti INDYCAR Mid-Ohio Race Report

Race Notes
The Andretti INDYCAR team was back in action at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this afternoon to tackle the second to last road course of the 2024 season. The 80-lap race resulted in all three cars securing a top-eight result for the team, the third race in a row all Andretti cars have finished in the top 10.
Leading the way as the team’s highest starting car, Colton Herta’s second-row position allowed him to stay consistent in the top four for the majority of the race. Herta attempted to navigate the Gainbridge Honda further up the field, but was unable to gain enough speed to secure a podium finish. Today’s finish marks Herta’s second-best result at Mid-Ohio (2020 Race 2 – P1).
Taking on Mid-Ohio for the seventh time, Marcus Ericsson started today’s race in his second-best starting position at this track. The No. 28 Delaware Life Honda faced some balance issues during the race, but was able to maintain a top-five position during the race. After the checkered flag waved, Ericsson captured his third top five of the season and moved up one position in the INDYCAR standings.
Kyle Kirkwood took to the grid in P14 for his third appearance at Mid-Ohio. He used his experience on the Ohio road circuit to navigate his way up six positions, securing his best INDYCAR finish on this track.
INDYCAR will head back to an oval for the first time since the Indianapolis 500 as the field takes on the first doubleheader of the season next weekend at Iowa Speedway.
Race Results
Colton Herta No. 26 Gainbridge Honda
P4
Started: P4
Standings: 5th (249pts)

“Overall, I’m happy with today – P4 isn’t a bad result for the points. The team should be proud of everything they’ve done this weekend. The pit stops were awesome and the strategy was great. The Gainbridge Honda was fast, but we were just missing that last little bit of speed to crack into the top three. I’m happy with the result and looking forward to Iowa next weekend.”
Kyle Kirkwood No. 27 AutoNation Honda
P8
Started: P14
Standings: 6th (234pts)

“We moved up from P14 to P8, so I’m pretty happy with that result considering how we did yesterday. We were fast and had great pace by the end of the race, but we just started a bit too deep in the field today to do anything with that. We really should have been up there with Colton and Marcus. At least we were able to make up some spots and get good speed after a tough qualifying yesterday.”
Marcus Ericsson No. 28 Delaware Life Honda
P5
Started: P5
Standings: 12th (180pts)

“It was an up and down race, to be honest. The first stint we were struggling quite a bit on the balance and then the second stint on the new reds, we were flying. We were just so fast and catching everyone. The Delaware Life Honda felt amazing. We took a bit of a gamble going on used reds in the last stint, which didn’t quite work out. We were struggling a lot and had to fight very hard to stay in the top five. Overall though, it was a really good weekend and I’m happy with a top-five result.”
Rob Edwards Chief Operating Officer

“We didn’t make it on the podium, which is disappointing given our speed in qualifying, but we’re thankful we were able to get all three cars in the top eight at the end of the race. We probably didn’t have the ultimate pace that we needed to win the race, but getting all three cars to the finish and more points in the bag is a positive. We’ll keep moving forward and head to some short oval racing next weekend.”
