GLOBAL RALLYCROSS RACE REPORT: ATLANTIC CITY ROUND 9

Opening the morning of Red Bull Global Rallycross Round 9 in
Atlantic City, Speed topped the field to start the day in Final Practice with a
best lap of 50.675. Closely behind, Foust finished the session second behind
Speed by 0.211.

Qualifying for the second event of the weekend double-header
saw the VARX pair start the session in the second group, with Speed once again
showing how fast his Beetle is by finishing first with a best lap of 51.231.
Just 0.596 seconds behind his teammate, Foust finished the session third with
Arpin qualifying second.

Kicking off first heat of the day together, Heat 1B saw
Speed start from pole with Foust in third. Finishing where they started, Speed
nabbed another heat win while Foust finished third.

Shifting gears to the second heat, Speed started Heat 2B in pole position with
Foust starting fifth. With Speed out front early in the five-lap event, Foust
settled in while Speed went on to win the heat and Foust again finished third.

Heading into Heat 3B, Speed once again started the race from first with Foust
in fifth. Leading start to finish, Speed won the heat easily while third-place
streak continued for Foust.

Semifinal A saw Speed starting from pole, getting the jump
on the start to get out front and lead start to finish, showcasing the strength
of his No. 41 Oberto Circle K Volkswagen Beetle.

Starting Semifinal B second, Foust looked to set himself up for a better final
event than the day. For Foust, he crossed the line second after five laps but
finished third after an assessed penalty for contact.

Round 9 ended as a perfect day for Speed, starting and
finishing first in each event he competed including the Final to grab his fifth
win of the season and sweeping the weekend in Atlantic City.

For Foust, the Bader Field track proved to be a tough one as
he looked to recover from the Round 8 Final. Starting on the outside of the
second row in sixth, Foust quickly fell back and found himself fighting for
position. Crossing the line, Foust was forced to settle for ninth after
assessed time penalties for contact during the 10-lap main event.

Heading into the final stretch, Volkswagen Andretti
Rallycross leaves the East Coast for the West, taking on Evergreen Speedway
near Seattle for their last double-header of the season Sept. 8-10.

Round 10 action airs Saturday, Sept. 9, at 4:30 p.m. ET. Round 11’s Final
broadcasts Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:30 p.m. ET, both on NBC.

“To be honest, that race was kind of Plan
A. That one went the way it hopefully does. The Circle K Oberto Volkswagen
Andretti Rallycross Beetle is on rails, and it’s super fast. To be fair, these
guys are catching up and it’s getting tight. I’m really looking forward to a
really competitive last half of the season – we’re really going to have to be
on our A game. Fortunately, we got some great points this weekend – it gives us
the points lead and we’ve just got to hold on. We’re three for three – no
complaints!”

“I do not have the best record in New Jersey. Last year, we
had the puncture while leading the Final, and this year certainly did not come
without challenges. There was a lot of good, hard rallycross and
there was a lot of rallycross that was simply too hard, both from others
and myself. With 10 cars on such a tight track, there’s bound to be contact,
but this was a particularly difficult weekend for some reason. As we look on to
Seattle, I do have a good record there and we have yet another double-header
weekend with rain likely in the forecast. We’ll move on to the next round, and
look to bounce back.”
