VARX: Seattle Race Report
The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team continued its success at Evergreen Speedway with Tanner Foust winning the Supercar Final in Seattle, Washington for Round 10 of Redbull Global Rallycross action. Yesterday’s schedule of events saw Heat 2, Supercar Semi-final and the Supercar Final. The penultimate race brought plenty of race action with high tension as the series heads into the final race of the 2016 season.
Foust walked away with the win in his No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle. Foust dominated both heats taking home top honors in both runs. His only set back of the weekend came in qualifying when a small mistake on track kept him from taking the pole position. Unbothered, Foust came back stronger than ever in the Semi-final once again taking the win. He then promptly topped his weekend off with winning the Supercar Final and taking over the driver points championship lead.
Teammate Scott Speed in the No. 41 Oberto Beef Jerky Circle K faced much adversity over his weekend in Seattle. In Heat 2 he finished third overall after fighting to find pace. Speed suffered two large hits in the Semi-final which forced him into the Last Chance Qualifier round. Speed took second place in the LCQ, securing his eighth place starting position in the Supercar Final. Speed diligently drove from behind for a fourth place finish.
This weekend’s race at Evergreen Speedway will be broadcast on NBC Sunday, September 18 at 1:30 p.m. ET. For results and event information download the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross app on your smartphone.
The team next heads to Los Angeles, California for the final race of the 2016 Redbull Global Rallycross season.
TANNER FOUST
NO. 34 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK BEETLE GRC
Winner of Round 10
“It’s a pleasure to be back here, the fans here are the best,” Foust said. “Really across the country, the fans here are the best. It’s so awesome to see so many familiar faces over the last decade of racing. The track was gnarly. The mud kind of challenging. I never felt like I ever had the track dialed in. The track was different every single time you were out there. Sometimes you would even see the ruts and you’d hit them and it would just pull a tire off. They would literally just pull the tires right off the rim. So that was a challenge. The NASCAR track was pretty fun.
“All the team’s had a huge battle. Volkswagen Andretti pulled it off and it was spectacular. Thanks to Kyle, Russ, Pricey, Graham and Clark. We have an amazing group of guys over there so congrats to them.”
SCOTT SPEED
NO. 41 OBERTO / CIRCLE K VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE GRC
Finished fourth overall
“It was difficult to go through the day not knowing what was wrong and why we didn’t have the pace. So I was happy we found and fixed the problem so we could come back in the final. That’s all thanks to the hard work the guys put in, in under 30-minutes. So thanks to them and to Oberto Beef Jerky and Circle K Stores for their support this weekend.”
