FIRESTONE 600 WILL ‘RESTART YOUR ENGINES’ AUG. 27

6.12.16

After just 71 laps, the Firestone 600 was red flagged due to rain and will be completed as a night race on August 27. The ninth race of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series was scheduled for 248 laps. Per INDYCAR rules, a race must complete at least half its scheduled lap distance to be considered official.

The race was originally scheduled for Saturday, June 11, but lingering wet track conditions from a day-long rainfall prevented the 248-lap race from beginning. The four Andretti cars took the green flag today at 2:48 p.m. ET, but were not able to get to the half-way mark before storms returned.

The schedule for August 27 includes a practice session prior to the resumption of the race. Broadcast information will be announced at a later date. Tickets for the original race date will be honored for the makeup date.

In the meantime, the 2016 Verizon IndyCar schedule resumes Friday, June 24 in Elkhart Lake, WI for the Kohler Grand Prix at Road America.  NBC Sports will broadcast practice live at 12 p.m. ET and the race will go green Sunday, June 26 at 1:15 p.m ET.
