Global Rallycross, Race One Report
SCOTT SPEED
– After dealing with mechanical issues during yesterday’s practice rounds, the championship driver was able to bring the No. 41 Volkswagen Beetle GRC to back-to-back first place finishes in Heat 2B and Semifinal 2B.
– Speed finished today’s Race One in the fifth position at Wild Horse Motorsports Park.
“Well, all things considered, we broke in qualifying and e broke again in the main event and we still finished fifth, so we’re taking that as a bullet dodged and really solid points collected.”
NO. 34 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK BEETLE GRC
– The Colorado-native kicked off the 2016 season with a statement victory at Red Bull GRC Phoenix, the series’ inaugural event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.
– The long time rallycross driver went two-for-two in both Heat rounds and he walked away with a first place finish in today’s Semifinal round.
“Obviously a win is a good way to start the season. With the team working hard in the off season and not knowing how we are going to stack up when the dust settles at the end of the first race, it’s good to know that we’re competitive. It’s a bummer that Scott wasn’t on the podium, but tomorrow’s a new day and I think we’ve shown that the Volkswagen Beetle GRC can be pretty dominant on this track.”
