TEAMMATE VS. TEAMMATE: SCOTT SPEED VS. TANNER FOUST
When Volkswagen USA and Andretti Autosport partnered for a two-car assault on the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship in 2014, the idea was to become as competitive as possible, as quickly as possible. One of the best ways for a new race team to accomplish that in any series is to grab the best driving talent available, which the new unit did immediately with Tanner Foust, the two-time Supercar champion, and Scott Speed, one of the fastest newcomers to the sport in 2013.
At the conclusion of year two of the partnership, the moves have paid off in a big way. The team’s Beetle has become one of the best cars in the series after two years of intensive development, while Speed and Foust have taken five of 11 wins on offer to set up a head-to-head showdown for the title in Las Vegas—guaranteeing Volkswagen’s first championship in the five-year history of Red Bull GRC. They’ve shown no signs of looking back, either, as the team is contractually locked in through the 2017 season.
So, how do the two remaining title contenders stack up against one another? We’ve got the goods, right here:
