VARX Practice Report: D.C.
The second half of the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross season commences with a return to Washington, D.C. marking the series’ second-ever visit to the nation’s capital. At .980 miles and with nine turns, the new RFK Stadium layout is significantly larger, faster and wider than last year’s course and one of the longest in Global Rallycross history. The dirt jump also makes a return after being utilized in three of this season’s events.
Our series partner, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., serves as this year’s presenting D.C. event sponsor. At this event last year, the manufacturer unveiled the official Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Beetle that Speed and Foust have campaigned throughout this 2015 season. The North Carolina resident, Speed, dominated today’s rounds, finishing first overall in qualifying and capturing a second place finish in Heat 1A. Foust had an equally commanding day in D.C. qualifying in the fifth position and walking away with a second place finish in Heat 1B.

SCOTT SPEED, NO. 41 BRIMTEK BEETLE
“We knew early that we had a lot of pace in this morning’s practice sessions, so we’re looking really great for tomorrow. We struggled a little on our long runs, so during the heat we just weren’t able to hold off Jeff (Ward). Fortunately the Beetles are still dominant and quick, so we’ll still have a good shot in the main event and at least have a shot of getting some good championship points.”
“Pretty hectic, but good first day at the Volkswagen presented Global Rallycross event here in D.C. Since this is somewhat a home race for me it’s been great to see my friends from high school, definitely added a great addition to the overall day. Great day for the Volkswagen Andretti crew, both Beetles finished second in their heats and we were fast during this morning’s practice runs. We have a little bit of work to do to fine tune some of our setup issues with this track, but I have no doubt that the team will be able to get it done tonight. We’re excited about getting back out there tomorrow and hopefully the fans of D.C. will witness an awesome show!”
