VARX Race Report: Detroit Race Two

SCOTT SPEED, NO. 41 KINETIC VISION BEETLE
– Speed captured his second podium finish during round six of the Red Bull Global Rallycross doubleheader weekend in Detroit.
– The California-native now sits in the fifth position in the Championship point standings.
“The first start of the day, I wish they had let that go because I think we would have had the shot to steal a win, but we re-racked them and went again. Patrick (Sandell) had us a little bit all weekend really, so he deserved to win and it was good for us to finish second. Coming away with another podium is great for our championship points, now we’ll be looking on to the DC race and hopefully a win.”
TANNER FOUST, NO. 34 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK BEETLE
– Bad luck once again ended the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle’s day in Detroit during an incident at the start of the race, resulting in a DNF.
– The two-time Global Rallycross Champion battled his teammate during today’s semifinal round, ultimately capturing a first place finish and a one, two finish overall for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team.
“Positive and productive weekend considering the awful results for the Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle, we changed the car every session and we continued to get faster and faster. Scott (Speed) and I started out the fastest and ended the fastest as far as lap time goes. Happy that Scott was able to convert that into second place finishes both days. We made a lot of strides forward on the Beetle. In the final, I had a really ideal position to challenge (Patrick) Sandell for the lead in the first lap and I played it a little bit safe by choosing the inside of the second row instead of the outside of the first row. I ended up in the wall by the narrow Joker lane, damaging the car pretty badly. I have to fight for the win in the next races to try a regain some championship points after this weekend.”
