Global Rallycross MCAS New River officially kicked off the holiday weekend today on the mostly pavement circuit, this is the first time that a major league rallycross series has raced on an active military base. At .993 miles, the MCAS New River course is the longest in Global Rallycross history. With seven turns and a 65-35 pavement to dirt ratio, this is the fastest course of the 2015 season. The fourth round started off with two of the quickest practice laps from the No. 41 and No. 34 Volkswagen entries. However, both Speed and Foust saw limited track time, eventually all on-track sessions were canceled due to severe weather.

“Today was great, we made a lot of good progress with the No. 41 SHARK WEEK Beetle. I think we would have had a good shot for the pole position, but unfortunately some weather rolled in halting our plans. We just have to continue the momentum we found today and hope that we don’t have any hiccups on Sunday.”

“Day one at MCAS New River was an amazing experience, it’s incredible to be on an active military base. It’s an honor to be able to spend time with these folks who our fighting for our country and their families. In the first practice session our Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle felt pretty good right off the bat. Second practice session felt pretty good as well, we never really put together an ideal lap, but we still had the third quickest time. Unfortunately going into qualifying Mother Nature started the fireworks a little early, but we’ll be back at it on Sunday and I’m looking forward to giving everyone here at MCAS New River a great show.”
