TANNER FOUST, NO. 34 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK BEETLE
- Foust walked away from Semifinal 1B with a DNF after making contact and breaking the front right suspension in the No. 34 machine, ultimately forcing the 42-year-old into the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ).
- After a first-place podium finish in yesterday’s race, the Rockstar Energy Drink driver ended his day in the fifth position at Daytona International Speedway.
“Extreme heat combined with the double-header factor made this one of the most brutal racing weekends I’ve seen in Global Rallycross. I’m happy we came out with a win on Saturday. We were turning quick laps all weekend, but we were constantly hit with mechanical issues, including a bolt issue both Beetles and losing four-wheel drive in today’s final. Both issues are being looked at by the Volkswagen engineers, so to have them on our side is a great asset to the program. I have to thank the Volkswagen Andretti team for working so hard this entire weekend, now we can look ahead to North Carolina.”
SCOTT SPEED, NO. 41 SHARK WEEK BEETLE
- Speed started Round 3 of the Global Rallycross Series with a mechanic issue prior to today’s qualifying run. The 32-year-old went on to finish in the third position in Semifinal 1A, securing a spot in the main event.
- The California-native retired early in race two after losing the front suspension due to an on-track collision – Speed finished in the ninth position.
“Just an all around unlucky weekend for the whole Volkswagen Andretti team, we just couldn’t catch a break. We had such high hopes coming into this double-header weekend, but nothing went our way. We know we have the speed and we know we can win, so to come out here and not show it definitely hurts. At least we know what we need to work on with the SHARK WEEK Beetle during our week off before North Carolina and fingers crossed we can put on a good show there. Big thanks to the crew who worked incredibly hard to get Tanner (Foust) and I back on-track all weekend, all we can do now is work on getting those points back and bump us back up in the championship standings.”
