Scott Speed – No. 41 SHARK WEEK Beetle
- – For the second weekend in a row, Speed found himself on top of the Global Rallycross qualifying charts.
- – The 10-lap battle secured the California native’s third X Games gold medal.
“It was a crazy final race, definitely the most gratifying of my career from the fact that it just took so much work, not only from myself, but from the whole Volkswagen Andretti team. I’m sure the show for the X Games fans was amazing, I know I cannot wait to get back home and watch it. It was a true testament to the Beetle because it took a beating out there. Ideally it would have been nice to just through Turn 1 on the inside and just check away from the field, but that didn’t happen. I’d much rather win X Games gold that way, it was a dog fight and when you are able to close on the win after such a battle is an incredible feeling.”
Tanner Foust – No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle
- – The multi-talented driver endured through a tough battle during the morning’s heat rounds, ultimately finding himself in the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). After walking away with the LCQ win, the 41-year-old started from the last grid position during the final round.
- – Foust, who was looking to secure his 10th X Games medal, finished X Games Austin in the sixth position.
“X Games Austin was a really great race, I’m super happy for the team and Scott (Speed) for walking away with his third gold medal. The weekend started off great for both cars, we were the fastest in timed practice earlier in the week and then dust became the story for the No. 34 after that. In qualifying, I had a issue navigating through the dust on the track and then if I wasn’t first in my heat, the dust became an even bigger issue. The takeaway from the weekend is that this track is completely different from Ft. Lauderdale, so showing the speed and versatility of the Beetle makes everyone pretty nervous especially with our hunt for the championship.”
