Muñoz quickest in final practice at Toronto
In the last practice before the start of the Honda Indy Toronto, Carlos Muñoz broke Penske’s dominance, setting the fastest time of the 30-minute session. He was the first of three Hondas to top the charts as no driver lapped under a minute.
Graham Rahal of the No. 15 RLL drive and Conor Daly, likely making his final appearance for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports this season, were second and third quickest respectively.
Muñoz will start 13th in the race this afternoon, actually setting a faster time in the final practice than his best qualifying time. He finished the session with 25 laps, clocking his best time on the 22nd.
Tony Kanaan was the fastest Chevrolet, with a 1:00.347 in his No. 10 NTT Data Chip Ganassi to claim the fourth best time of the morning. He was followed by his Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Scott Dixon and Charlie Kimball. Simon Pagenaud, who will start second today in the quest for his first win with Penske, was seventh quickest after holding the top spot through much of the session.
Polesitter Will Power finished with the 16th best time, a 1:00.7849. Juan Pablo Montoya, the points leader and provisional qualifying winner until the very last seconds of yesterday’s session, ran only a few laps in the session.
The green flag flies for the race today at 3:07 pm ET after being moved up due to weather. Follow @VAVELIndyCar for live tweeting throughout all 85 laps.
