RACE REPORT: 2026 CUPRA Raval Madrid E-Prix

Race Notes
- After a five-year hiatus, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returned to Spain for a singleheader PIT BOOST race in the capital. Cars took to the track yesterday for the opening Free Practice 1 session, with Felipe Drugovich leading the Andretti duo in ninth as teammate Jake Dennis took the checkered in 14th. Continuing the trend, the Brazilian topped the timing sheets in a wet Free Practice 2 this morning with Dennis placing ninth.
- Dennis and Drugovich were split across the two groups during Qualifying, though the Andretti pair were unable to progress into the Duel stages, finishing sixth and 10th, respectively.
- The No. 28 car opted for an early, aggressive Attack Mode strategy, overtaking the entire field from last before making the mandatory PIT BOOST stop. On the other side of the garage, Dennis delayed his Attack Mode until after his PIT BOOST, with both Andretti teammates emerging just outside the top-10 once the entire field had taken their charge.
- The British driver was able to take advantage of his late Attack Mode, making up positions in the closing stages of the race and took the checkered in sixth. Drugovich, however, lost positions to those who had opted for a late Attack mode strategy and ultimately finished 15th.
- With Drugovich’s one lap led today, Andretti Formula E’s total laps led increased to 461, while Dennis’ result marked the team’s 135th top-10 finish.
- The Andretti Formula E team remains seventh in the Teams’ World Championship standings with 47 points.

Qualifying
- Dennis took part in Group B Qualifying and was unable to progress into the Duels, missing out on the top four by 0.069 hundredths of a second.
Race
- Dennis gained three positions in the opening phase of the E-Prix to break into the top 10 before the PIT BOOST window, where a later stop strategy promoted the No. 27 driver up to third.
- After the charge, Dennis emerged just outside the points-paying positions and used his strategically saved Attack mode of six minutes on Lap 18. With the extra power, the Brit was able to gain five positions to secure a sixth-place finish at the checkered, earning eight Championship points.
- Dennis’ result marks his 55th top-10 finish in the all-electric series.
“Wrapping up a very busy Madrid event and I’m very happy with our sixth-place result. It was a great race with so many fans here, so it’s good that Formula E put on a good show. I think sixth was the maximum today from our side. There are still some things to work on but, nevertheless, we can take those points and continue to improve to be ready in Berlin.”

Qualifying
- Drugovich was unable to make the Duels, finishing 10th in Group A.
Race
- Opting to take an early Attack Mode, Drugovich utilized his extra 50kWh of power to make his way from last to first, overtaking the entire field by Lap 8.
- A few laps before taking PIT BOOST, the Brazilian dropped positions to conserve energy, taking the mandatory charge from sixth place. Emerging just outside the top-10 after stopping, Drugovich lost positions to those around him in Attack Mode and ultimately finished the E-Prix in 15th.
- The 2026 CUPRA Raval Madrid E-Prix is the second Formula E race the No. 28 driver has led, with his total laps led tally increasing to seven laps.
“It was a frustrating race in the end because I think the strategy was good, but the execution just wasn’t quite there on our side. We showed strong pace and to come through the field and lead the race was good experience. Unfortunately, we made the wrong call on tires in qualifying which put us on the back foot starting at the rear, and that made things more difficult. There are still positives to take, but definitely things we need to review going forward.”

Team Principal

“A mixed day for us in Madrid. Felipe had a super strong showing this morning in practice with difficult conditions out, but unfortunately we had a misjudgment on the team’s side for the tire selection which led us to not being able to deliver what we intended. In the race, it was a solid drive from last to first with the Attack Mode which was helpful with building confidence in him. We’re starting to see the performance that we knew was always there starting to come together, so we’ve just got to keep working at it and we know that one of these days, it will all come together. For Jake, it was super close to making it into the Duels and the race also provided a good opportunity for Jake to work his way through the field. It’s nice to score points having missed out last time racing in Jeddah and it gives more confidence to the team too.
Heading into the Rookie Test tomorrow we’ve got quite a lot of test items we want to make our way through which will help us as we head into the second half of the season. I’d also like to add that the event in Madrid has been amazing. To see all of the people sat up on the grass despite the inclement weather, the number of celebrities that we’ve had here, including the king of Spain – it’s clear the Spanish have really come out on force and it’s been a great inaugural event for Formula E. We’re already super excited about coming back here again in the future.”
